I suppose in part two he summarizes what he’s learned.

So far the scholars journey sounds like my own. And still I give the old testament writers credit for allegories that are sometimes inspired.

I struggle with the New testament and Christian interpretations predominant today. Like that scholar, I was privy to some rare documents that opened my eyes. if interested Michael Dowd or Tom Harpur have some interesting books.

It is unfortunate that people buy the lie that the Bible contradicts science.

Genesis 1:1 ties right in with the big bang!

Another example: How about the fact the writer of Genesis knew that the number of stars was a staggering number, akin to the number of grains of sand in the sea? (Genesis 22:17) Go research what people used to think thousands of years ago. They thought there was about 1,100 stars. How did the “primitive” Bible writer know better? I have yet to find a skeptic point that out as contradictory evidence to their views. If you bring it up they act like the writers got lucky. Yep, they got lucky a lot.

The Amazon reviewer just rattled off bits from the Big Book O’ Atheist Sound Bites when critiquing the content of the Bible. All those questions have been answered countless times. Go read “I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist” — http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Have-Enough-Faith-Atheist/dp/1581345615/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1252374136&sr=8-1

People aren’t atheists because of scientific issues. Here’s why they are atheists (I know, because I used to be one):

Romans 1:18-20 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

God has revealed himself to us, but many reject it out of unrighteousness. Eternity is a mighty long time. I hope the guy in the Yahoo video comes across some Christians who can answer his objections. Answers are there if you keep looking.

I know of several amazing pieces of knowledge intermingled in the Old Testament.

One that still blows me away, is expounded on in a mystical Jewish text of Genesis. The let there be light is more insightful than it first appears. Light is energy and ultimately it makes up all matter. The mystical text explains this in terms that are eerily familiar.

I also must point out that few Christians would call me one. I use the Holy books and try to keep Jesus two commands, but past that I don’t profess any one way.

  4. To Neil,
I reccomend you the page http://www.netzarim.co.il – historical research about the historical person Ribi Yehoshua (the Messiah).

(If you are an atheist or agnostic..)
I recommend you all also the page bloganders.blogspot.com. In the left menu I have a link to an article that proves the existence of a Creator and His purpose of humankind.

    All the best,
    Anders Branderud
